Eye of the Beholder by Kylie Wishneski
“Eye of the Beholder” by Kylie Wishneski, acrylic on canvas and paper
This piece doesn’t necessarily have a deeper meaning, but the goal was for it to be slightly unsettling. I initially intended for the eye to be staring directly at the viewer, but it ended up looking just off into the distance. This gives the impression that the eye is looking behind you, possibly at something or maybe it’s just avoiding eye contact. I wanted to create a piece that was vague enough that it’d be intriguing and could have a more significant meaning but it is up to the viewer to determine the significance of the eye. I chose to paint the eye on paper and tear it out instead of painting it directly on the hand simply for added contrast between the two materials and slightly different colors.
