Words to Women by Cora Nadeau

In this artwork I used a combination of charcoal and acrylic black paint on gray toned paper. I’ve titled this piece as “Words To Women.” The idea behind this whole piece was to depict the negative backlash towards women who speak out against sexual assault or sexism embedded in society like dress codes. I got the inspiration to create this piece by observing that as a society we collectively decide to degrade a lot of women invalidating their personal and traumatic experiences when they speak out to raise awareness.

I enjoyed creating this piece because it’s based around a topic I am very passionate about. In addition, I enjoyed the use of charcoal in the piece. It allowed me to be flexible in how I created the piece through shading and creating different tones throughout her face and neck.
