“My mom played field hockey her whole life, and I kind of just followed in her footsteps. I played the sport once and fell in love with it. So I quit soccer and decided to do field hockey instead. Canton has been a pretty strong field hockey program throughout forever. When my mom went to Canton, she won two state championships. All my coaches have played a significant role in my development as a player, like my mom, my aunt and Ms. Bristol. They all really influenced me to play on to the next level. They showed me how much I love the sport.
“I also am a part of a club team called HTC, which has helped me get looked at by college coaches. I go to showcases in Florida, Pennsylvania and Virginia, so that the coaches can see me play, some being Endicott, Salve, Umass Dartmouth, and Stonehill. These opportunities to play in club field hockey have really helped me.
“I’m currently not recruited yet, but it has been a very stressful situation balancing between two schools that have offered me a spot on the roster. It has been hard figuring out what school I want to go to, and seeing where I would thrive the most. I also have to make pros and cons lists about each school discussing what campus feels most like home and which coach I would feel more comfortable talking to.
“If I were to give advice to the younger generation, I would definitely tell them to start young. So like Freshman starting field hockey, if they want to play in college and they know that. I would tell them to join a club team and encourage them to attend more tournaments because it’s really beneficial for them in the recruiting process. You can do anything you put your mind to”
Madison Dufresne, a 17- year- old senior, has been lived in Canton her whole life. In addition to her academic achievements, she was named a captain of the Canton High School Field hockey team in 2024. As well as being on the field since freshman year, Madison has earned numerous awards including All Conference twice, and All State 1st team throughout 2023-2024. Madison is a hard worker who always strives to be successful.
