“I had always known about water wars and heard all about it during the first three years of high school. It was always a big thing with the seniors, and it was something fun that the seniors could participate in at the end of the school year. However I did know the stress it induced in the seniors of prior years. The paranoia of never knowing if there is someone at your house, lurking waiting to get you out. I didn’t want it. So I thought, I might as well become one of the people who run the game. Also getting a cut of all the winnings helped too, so there were many factors in me deciding to help run the games.
“So before the game started there was a lot of preparation. In past years, there were rules, but also a lot of grey areas where there would always be disputes. Knowing this, we knew we had to make it perfect. We spent a lot of time crafting the rules, and going through all possible scenarios: boundaries where people were safe, rules on what to do in case of people shooting each other, people breaking rules, ect. We had to create these rules, get payments from all teams, and generate targets for each group. Then, we posted everything on the instagram page, and told each duo their assignment.
“Now that the games have started, even though it’s just the first day, it’s been crazy. At the break of dawn, we were sent in the video clip of the first elimination, and that was the sign that no one was safe. All throughout today, people have been getting out left and right, and we already have had two “Most Wanted” participants. They earned this title by doing something me and my partner Evan deemed to be breaking the rules. When a person is slapped with the “most wanted” title, they are free game for everybody. Every person participating in the game can go after them and eliminate them. It’s the most dangerous tag to earn, so they better watch out. Overall though, it’s a lot of people sending in video clips for us to post on instagram, and settling disputes, nothing too crazy, but it’s a lot of fun.
“A piece of advice to everyone competing I would say is just play with integrity. No one wants someone lying over this game, and just play fair. That way we get a fun game where everyone is safe and able to unite as a school, because at the end of the day, this is all just a game and is supposed to be fun for everyone, so that is my piece of advice.”
