First, on behalf of Mr. Verner, myself, and the entire CHS staff, we wish you and your family a wonderful holiday and a restful winter recess. We will look forward to seeing everyone back on January 3rd! Having said that, in this season of giving it was great to see so much food coming through the doors these past couple of weeks. Thank you to everyone who participated in a very successful food drive that was organized by Math Department Chair, Mrs. Aitchison. Do to the efforts of staff, students, and families, we were able to bring 3 very full car loads of food to the Canton Food Bank. Thank you everyone for your participation! For pictures and more details, check out the CHS website.
In addition, we are proud of our Student Council, who spearheaded a very successful project to bring much needed toiletries and other items to Gifts of Love in Avon. For pictures and more details on the endeavor as well, check out the CHS website.
Thank you to all who were able to participate in the American Red Cross blood drive held at Canton High School on Friday, December 16th. Thirty-nine students and community members participated and as a result, thirty-one pints of blood were collected. Thanks to Mrs. Connole and the National Honor Society members for recruiting donors and working to ensure that the day ran efficiently. Please consider signing up to donate blood during the next drive on Monday, April 3rd.
Through the work of English Teacher Ms. Kurt and several students, we are proud to announce Canton High School’s new magazine, The Arrow. The first edition showcases student journalism, creative writing, art, and photography. As “a voice for all,” The Arrow encourages students to contribute their writing and artistic talents either as staff members or freelancers. We are hoping to lauch an online version in the new year, but for now check it out here.
Students in Señora Smith’s Spanish classes combined their knowledge of Spanish-speaking countries with virtual reality using the free Cardboard app and Google Street View. Check out our website for more pictures and information.
If you haven’t done it already, please log on to the CollegeBoard website and create an account. School Counselors will be meeting with students immediately after the winter break.
The recess may be a great time to clean out your closets and get ready for the winter clothing drive to be held by CATA from January 3rd through the 18th. All gently used winter clothing and footwear in all sizes can be brought to the CHS office and/or room 109.
Athletic News
Our athletes have several events happening over the break, including Girls Basketball hosting the Holiday Tournament on Tuesday, December 27th and Thursday Dec 29th. We hope you can come out and support them! Always check out the athletics/CIAC website for the most up to date information on home and away contests.
