Notes from the Principal:
Although it was a shortened week with the holiday and some minor weather woes, we managed to keep exams on track. Students who were taking exams seemed to come in prepared to do their best. As a reminder, more exams will be administered on Monday and Tuesday as follows (Please note that final exams will have no impact on the regular, daily class schedule for these days. Also note that in the event of a snow day, exams will be pushed out 1 day.):

We are proud to say that twelve Canton High School students participated in the CMEA’s Northern Regional Music Festival this past weekend. For pictures and more information, check out our website.
CHS student, Laura Obermeyer, was recognized with an honorable mention award at this year’s CAEA Art Award competition. Her artwork titled, Snowmass Rodeo, was based on a photograph that she shot at the Snowmass Rodeo during a summer she spent in Colorado. The Arrow, Canton High School’s news, arts & literary magazine is now online! They are looking for student journalists, creative writers, artists, and photographers to contribute to the publication, either as regular staff or freelancers. The Arrow and Creative Writing Clubs meet on Thursdays at 2:30 in room 214.
Thanks to all who donated to CATA’s Winter Clothing Drive. Students sorted the clothing on Thursday and it will be delivered next week. Clothing will be given out through the Canton Food Bank and Gifts of Love in Avon. Check out pictures on our website.
Athletic News
Last Friday the boys and girls basketball teams both had big wins over SMSA. Congratulation to both teams! Wrestling is finishing off their season and looking forward to hosting the NCCC championship on February 11th. Indoor Track is preparing for the NCCC championship coming up in a few weeks. Check out the athletics/CIAC website for the most up to date information on home and away contests.
Notes from School Counseling:
SENIORS: Midyear reports will be sent automatically to colleges by February 3. There is no need for a special request. Local scholarship programs will go live and be announced in February.
JUNIORS: Please schedule your Junior Meeting right away if you have not done so. Please complete the Junior Questionnaire in Naviance BEFORE the meeting. If you have questions about course selection for next year, see your counselor.
SOPHOMORE PARENTS: Please help your student create an account at CollegeBoard.org to access PSAT scores if you have not already done so; counselors will visit classrooms later next month to link to Khan Academy. PARENTS: Be sure that the account is created in the STUDENT’S name, not yours, and be sure that student knows and has access in school to their user name and password.
FRESHMEN: Counselors have met with all ninth graders individually and have also visited classrooms to create CollegeBoard accounts. Any students who were absent should see their counselor.
Senior Photo Collages
Seniors have the option adding photo collages and short write-ups into the 2017 Yearbook. Each Senior has a space next to their portrait for this purpose. Please follow the directions provided to you by email on Jan. 20th if wish to include a write-up and collage in the Yearbook. COLLAGES AND WRITE-UPS ARE DUE NO LATER THAN FRIDAY FEBRUARY 17, 2017 to Mrs. Hartley.
Snowflake Scramble
Join your friends on snowshoe or hike through the forest on a frosty day for the Snowshoe Scramble! Lights On Canton is partnering with Canton Parks & Recreation Department to hold Canton’s first Snowshoe Scramble on Sunday, January 29 at 1 p.m. starting and ending at Canton High School. The Snowshoe Scramble is a gentle, rambling snowshoe or walk through the woods and Mills Pond Park (or a brisk walk if Mother Nature does not cooperate with snow). Hot chocolate and donuts will be waiting at the end, sledding and snowball fights are highly encouraged and four legged friends are welcome, too! The Snowflake Scramble includes a toasty hat in Canton pride colors and entry into a fantastic raffle. Registration for this fundraiser is $25 per person or $75 for a family of four. LEAVE A LEGACY BRICK
Lights On Canton, the committee raising funds for permanent lights for the CMS/CHS track & field athletic complex, is proud to announce the opening of its “Leave A Legacy” patio brick fundraiser.
