The Sun is Also a Star written by Nicola Yoon is an intriguing novel teaching us about the power of love and how every moment in our lives can bring us to one single moment when we realize the millions of futures that lie ahead of us.
The book is from the perspective of two characters, Natasha and Daniel. Natasha is a girl who believes in science and facts, not fate. Daniel is a poet and a dreamer who believes in both love and fate. Their two very different personalities become woven together as they spend a day in New York City and begin to fall for one another. But Natasha is being deported to Jamaica, and while it seems that fate brought them together, they are also going to be torn apart.
The purpose of the book is to develop the main theme, which shows us that if something is meant to be, it will be. The author achieves this purpose and more, combining values of spontaneity and adventure into an engaging novel. At the end of the book you see that even after so many years, Natasha and Daniel are still destined to be together when they meet by chance once again years later.
Overall the book is very fast-paced and moving. Even though it seems like their relationship could never work out, Daniel and Natasha still spend as much time together as they can. It is uplifting and fun to watch Daniel and Natasha fall for each other over the course of a day, especially as they begin to learn to warm up to each other. It has a cute and sweet ending that will leave you smiling.
