Andy Obrzut runs the 800 in the boys DMR

The annual track meet at Yale University in New Haven, Conn. on January 20-21, 2017 provided an opportunity for Canton Indoor Track Athletes to perform at their highest level. Over a two day period, our girls and boys teams broke five school records.
The meet was filled with competitive teams from across the New England area who pushed our athletes in races on the four-lane, 200 meter track. Almost 20 of the highest performing Canton athletes attended the meet and competed in various events.
On Friday, January 20, Sofia Langou, Amber Harraden, Maddie Archangelo, Emily Mitchell, and Chelsea Mitchell all competed in the girls 300 meter sprint. Jesse Waite and Dustin Vankirk competed in the boys 300 meter sprint on the boys side.
In the 4 x 800 meter relay, the boys team (Aidan O’Donnell, Peter Royer, Andy Obrzut, and Max Sparks) finished with a state qualifying time.
The girls and boys teams put together impressive 4 x 200 teams of Emily Mitchell, Chelsea Mitchell, Amber Harraden, Maddie Archangelo, Bradley Connolly, Jesse Waite, Chaz Williams, and Dustin Vankirk. The girls team managed to break the school record in this event.
The Distance Medley Relay also featured a girls and boys team from Canton and the girls were also able to break the school record by 25 seconds. The boys team consisted of Aidan O’Donnell, Andy Obrzut, Max Sparks, and Bradley Connolly. The girls team was Cami McCauley, Chelsea Mitchell, Abby Briggs, and Jane Frawley.
On Saturday, Jnauary 21, a group of distance runners returned to the meet to run the 3000 meter race. These individuals (Max Sparks, Aidan O’donnell, Peter Royer, Helena Winkler, Cami McCauley, and Jane Frawley) performed two state qualifying times and broke two school records. Jane Frawley and Max Sparks both broke the school record in this event and Aidan O’Donnell and Cami McCauley both qualified for the state championship.
Later that day, a larger group of Canton athletes participated in a meet at Hartford Public High School, where Chelsea Mitchell broke her own school record in the 55 meter dash.
The Canton Indoor Track team has grown and improved significantly this season, creating record-breaking performances almost every meet. The team hopes to do well at the upcoming Conference and State Championship meets.
