Prisms, an annual musical performance put together by the Canton High School seniors in the symphonic band took place on Saturday, February 4th at 7:30PM in the CHS auditorium. Each year the seniors get together to decide on the theme and the music that will be played.
The theme this year was “Prisms Through Time,” featuring music and skits from a variety of decades
The symphonic band played music from many different centuries and time periods including the baroque time period, impressionist period, and the 19th and 20th centuries with The Beatles and Journey.
Rachel Ausere, a sophomore at Canton High School who plays the clarinet in the symphonic band, said she was “very excited to participate in Prisms for the second time. The band worked diligently in order to make this year’s show great. There [were] assigned parts for each student in band, and each part collaborate[d] with each other to make the show a huge success..”
Actors including Gabe Mesa, Matt Pickett, Kayla Underkoffler, Santiago Noriega, and Nate Fulham all participated in the show by playing a character in the story line. The incorporation of actors developed the story line and showed a change in musical eras.
The band prepared for Prisms since the day after the fall/winter band concert in November. Ausere explained that “Each day, the band prepare[d] by working on difficult parts and running through every song.” Ausere especially loved “hearing the music develop from the first time we see it to the final concert.”
